Community Action for Nutrition

SATHI addresses health and nutrition issues through active community participation, and partnerships with civil society organisations, facilitating dialogue and action at local, district, state and national levels. With a systems’ strengthening and convergence approach, it promotes the importance of improving the functionality and effectiveness of public systems, instead of replacing or substituting them, and using community-based interventions to support household-level nutritional practices.

SATHI collaborates with more than 25 civil society organisations across the state, as part of Nutrition Rights Coalition (NRC) Maharashtra. The Tribal Development Department of the Government of Maharashtra, supports its Community Action for Nutrition (CAN) in 420 villages/habitations across 10 tribal blocks of seven districts of Maharashtra (Nandurbar, Gadchiroli, Palghar, Nashik, Raigad, Thane, and Pune).

SATHI’s Building Community Action for Nutrition (B-CAN) in 120 villages/habitations across one tribal and two rural blocks of two districts (Amravati & Pune) of Maharashtra is supported by Bajaj CSR Pune.

We promote a collaborative approach to resolving malnutrition issues through active engagement between the Public Distribution System, Employment Guarantee, Rural Development initiatives, Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) and Health, and active involvement of community at the grassroots level
